Sport Impact Summit is a world-first gathering of sports, businesses and science leaders, kicking off at the prestigious, iconic hotel Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai in December 2024.
Our mission is to reach 1 billion people, and together, we can tackle the global threats facing humanity through the power of sport.
This inaugural event series unites world-class athletes, sporting heroes, teams, scientists and commercial leaders, all focusing on one goal – creating a more sustainable, healthier world for the future.
We’re not just spectators or competitors; we’re all on the same team and everyone can come and play.
Through the universal language of sport, we will inspire over a billion people with compelling narratives from their heroes as we all stand together to take action and change the score.

David Garrido | sports presenter, climate champion, Sport Impact Summit host
Our host for Sport Impact Summit is ideally placed to lead proceedings on stage in Dubai in December – David is widely regarded as the leading communicator and content-maker for sport and sustainability.
In his “day job”, David presents on Sky Sports News and has done for the last 13 years, having spent almost a decade at BBC Sport before then working across TV and radio sports programming. His career has taken him all over the world covering the biggest events such as football World Cups and European Championships, Formula 1 Grand Prix, Ashes cricket, tennis Grand Slams and more besides. He’s also interviewed some of the most famous sportspeople on the planet – David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho, Serena Williams, Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel to name just a few.
But David’s move into climate action and sustainability came later. Searching for more purpose and fulfilment in his role, he started looking into other areas where he could make a difference, and thankfully found Sky to be very supportive in his journey. The company themselves have a strong track record in environmental sustainability, with campaigns and initiatives such as Rainforest Rescue, Ocean Rescue, Pass on Plastic and Sky Zero. David could barely have had a better baseline for this new phase.
After painting the landscape, David started to move by creating content primarily for Sky, starting off with the most sustainable Transfer Deadline Day ever to showcase the channel’s own efforts to limit their carbon footprint on one of the most hectic days in the football calendar in early 2021, then launching a climate action takeover day live on Sky Sports News that summer, covering five different sport and sustainability stories at three-hour intervals, making his way between them in an electric car.

Hannah Mills | Job Title, Organisation
Hannah Louise Mills OBE (born 29 February 1988) is a British Olympic sailor, three-time world champion, and passionate climate action advocate having recently been announced as the first Impact Champion to support Sport Impact Summit.
She is renowned for her record-breaking achievements, becoming the most successful female Olympic sailor in British history after winning two gold medals and one silver across three Olympic Games. Mills’ remarkable sailing career, combined with her dedicated environmental advocacy, has earned her widespread recognition both on and off the water.
Mills’ currently serves as a strategist for the Emirates Great Britain SailGP team. SailGP is a high-speed, global sailing competition featuring F50 foiling catamarans that can reach speeds of up to 60 mph.
In August 2022, Mills, in partnership with Sir Ben Ainslie, launched the Athena Pathway Programme, a pioneering initiative aimed at fast-tracking development in high-performance sailing while promoting diversity within the sport.
Beyond her success on the water, Mills is a leading advocate for environmental sustainability. In 2019, she founded the Big Plastic Pledge, a global movement aimed at reducing single-use plastics in sport. This initiative calls on athletes, fans, and sporting organisations to take practical actions to minimise plastic waste, such as using refillable water bottles and avoiding disposable plastic items.

Our goal is to create a platform where these diverse sectors can debate, collaborate, and drive innovation towards a greener future.

This is your chance to learn from the best about what it means to be adaptive, resilient and empowered when it comes to being a gamechanger for planet health.
Science
Science has the power to influence the way we think and the way we play. We’ll hear from pioneers in the world of science and technology, who’ll be present to share the evidence, the solutions and the mindset we need to adopt to ensure lasting, positive and sustainable change.
Business Brands
Great brands have the power to question, alter and revolutionise the way we live and play. The Sport Impact Summit will gather the best minds, products and technologies to showcase the organisations that are embracing change, harnessing opportunity and helping reshape our future.
Why Sport
We live in an unhealthy world. Billions are suffering the devastating effects of rapid climate change.
These overwhelming challenges make it difficult to coordinate as a team.
But it’s not impossible. We just need a new team strategy.
The Power of Sport
Sport offers humanity a positive arena to channel our innate instincts. Competitive spirit. Grit. Compassion. Ingenuity.
It represents the best of us, a unifying force for good bound by an unrivalled universal language that transcends societal, cultural and geographical boundaries.
Athletes, sports teams, brands and the wider sports business are positioned to play a pivotal role in our future, coaching and cheerleading us toward change.
Sports push aside all human-made obstacles, letting us focus on our collective opponents.
One team. One goal. Let’s tackle the challenges together.
We need to inspire a comeback. If we want to overturn this deficit and create a healthier world, we must fight back, unite, and tackle the challenges head-on.
